Day 11: Last Full Day of Camp and Final Campfire

Today was our final full day of a wonderful choir camp.  We began the day with pancakes for breakfast, followed by warmups led by the fabulous voice teacher Cheryl.  The campers practiced the national anthem for the A's game, this time with staff members singing it two beats late to imitate the echo in the baseball stadium.  Next, campers attended their final theory class of this year's camp and wrapped up what they have been learning.  After theory class, each group went to their rehearsals to prepare for tomorrow's camp concert and the year ahead.  After baked potatoes and chili for lunch, the campers gathered on the patio for announcements and to sing Happy Birthday to Chloe Bobila!  Our last spirit day was Backwards Day, so participating cabins showed off their backwards clothing for spirit judging before heading to rest period.  Camp Joyful Voices came in first for spirit today, followed by Cabin Coyote in second place and a tie for third place between Raccoon, Jackrabbit, and Condor.  At free time, campers got two cookies each as a special last day treat while they enjoyed sectionals and voice lessons, time at the lake, and adopt-a-lanyard at arts and crafts.

Camp Joyful Voices wrote a variation on a song called Ida Red.  In the afternoon, they had a great time doing a creek walk!  They walked about a quarter of a mile to a nice spot to splash around, skip stones, walk around, and spend time together.  Today's stone-skipping record was nine skips!  Additionally, no shoes were lost in today's adventures!

Recital today was full of excellent performances.  We started fifteen minutes early so that we had time for everyone.  We heard performances from Helena Suarez-Kaminska, Alisia Marques, Alexa Borden, Julia Manese, Juliana Lai, Bella Willacy, Kai Estrella Kowal, Maddie Ashburn, Sydney Gong, Talia Young-Skeen, Anna Klein, Roxy Bostian, and group of boys in Ensemble who have been working with Tim Silva in master voice classes.  It was great getting to hear how much people have progressed and grown as musicians since last year and how their hard work at camp this year has paid off.  After dinner and dessert, campers went to their evening rehearsals.  Concert Choir's mentor/mentee assignments were decided and announced!  Finally, everyone came back together for closing campfire.  Bob kicked off our campfire by leading the Rabbit Song, followed by Kate leading another camp favorite, Aroostashaw.  During the closing chip ceremony, each camper and staff member dedicated a stick to something they are grateful for.  Many campers dedicated their chip to their counselors, cabins, mentors or mentees, old and new friends, and to a wonderful choir camp experience and community.  After dedicating their chip, campers got a s'more.  Several counselors led us in the song Come Along and the campers went to bed for their last night at Walker Creek Ranch for the year to get a good night's rest before the camp concert at the end of an exciting, tiring, rewarding, and fun choir camp.

We are sad for camp to come to an end, but we are looking forward to seeing all the parents tomorrow morning!
