Day 14 - Doing Camp the “Funway”
Campers awoke to a brisk morning today, and ate a hearty breakfast of pancakes with berry compote. Then campers participated in morning warmups, today led by voice teacher Laura Storm. Morning theory classes sped by, with some campers creating DIY chord progressions that had to include chromatic solfege inin SIr WIlliam’s theory class. During morning rehearsal, CC and Ensemble recorded sounds for a soundscape being created by composer Danny Clay for an installation at the downtown Berkeley bart station, as well as rehearsed their usual songs. For lunch, campers enjoyed chicken sandwiches and chatted with their cabin mates, all dressed in backwards attire for today’s spirit day. Camp Joyful Voices won first place for their wonderful Backwards day outfits. This afternoon, free time was packed with fun! Along with the usual sectionals and voice lessons, campers decorated treasure boxes at arts and crafts to safekeep camp memories or create a bedroom for their pet rocks. Camp joyful voices played camper catch counselor, a long standing camp game where kids find their CIT’s hidden all over camp, then paint them. It was a bit windy at the lake today, but that didn't stop a few of our intrepid campers from boating and enjoying nature here at walker creek. Recital was packed with talented student performers, such as Erin Bartholemew, Anne Reardon, Genevieve Hiller, Claire Weiss, Lucy Henrich, Oona Swartz, and Anna Klein. Dinner this evening was baby back ribs and baked beans. The campers had massed evening rehearsal in order to practice the Star Spangled banner for their upcoming performance at the A’s game. Our evening activity tonight was the much anticipated Project Funway! The theme this year was celestial bodies, and each cabin was assigned a planet form the solar system to inspire their design. A designer and three models are chosen at random, and campers have about twenty minutes to put together three different looks, one for evening wear, one for casual street style, and one for active wear. Then everyone convenes for a fashion show, with each cabin presented by their designer to a panel of judges. Judges this year included Chad (Mr. Brown), Miss Sparkles (Ms Anne), and a delegate from Planet NooNoo (voice teacher Audrey). The winner this year was cabin Condor, with their lovely designs inspired by venus! Their cabin wins the opportunity to dress up their counselor Rachel tomorrow in whatever crazy way they choose. The campers are resting now for another day of fun tomorrow!
