Day 4 - First Concert in Keuruu
June 27, 2019 | EnsTour Blogger
Today was a busy day filled with sightseeing and concerts! We began the day with a morning of museum visits. We learned about the history of Mantaa and the paper goods industry at the Serlachius Museum. Then, we were able to see works of art at the Gosta Serlachius Museum. While there, Ensemble performed a beautiful concert with Vox Aurea in the new wing of that museum for a packed house!
Then, we headed to Keuruu and boarded a paddlewheeler boat for an hour-long boat ride. We saw beautiful views of the lake and towns around Keuruu and the Ensemble and Vox Aurea singers spent time bonding and learning more about each other.
After the boat ride, Ensemble and Vox Aurea had rehearsals at the Keuruu Church, which has been in existence since the 17th century and was a lovely setting. After dinner at a nearby school, the singers all got ready for their evening concert at the church. The audience included about 200 young musicians attending a nearby summer music camp hosted by the church. The concert was wonderful, and the audience loved hearing music by both choirs, which included the first joint performance of Eric Tuan's "Crossings."
It was a busy day, and the singers all returned to their host families for a good night's sleep. Looking forward to more time to explore Jyvaskyla tomorrow!
