Day 6: Weaving New Memories
Today was another fantastic day at choir camp! The wake-up music was the finale from Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony. Warmups were led by Liz in the redwood Amphitheater.
In Kay’s musicianship class, singers were challenged with rhythmic analysis of their favorite pop songs, including Bruno Mars. Ensemble played bonding games with Liz as a part of morning rehearsal to get to know each other even better.
Lunch today was fruit, garlic bread and BBQ pork. Today’s spirit day was “Under the Sea” and campers really thought outside the box! Oceania won first place with their social commentary on pollution in the ocean; Mykonos made a musical pun that won them third; and Flora’s rendition of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ won them second place!
This afternoon was full of activities. Swimming, basket weaving, a guitar circle with Kay, ping pong and more.
We were treated to a full concert at recital this evening. Camp Joyful voices and Ecco are leaving camp tomorrow, so they treated us to a serenade of everything they have been working on this week. Joyful Voices sang Silver River, Inchworm, and One Minute Madrigal - complete with handmade signs! Ecco choristers Ken and Kiki both performed solos, and Ecco sang Oboro Zukiyo, The Lamb (conducted by Khoa), and First of my Lovers.
Dinner was mushroom risotto, popcorn chicken, and stir-fry veggies. Counselor Owen played Jeopardy at his dinner table with campers. The kids deeply enjoyed some cookies for desert.
This evening after rehearsal, campers enjoyed a “Night in Nature” led by their conductors. Ensemble had a meditative walk through the labyrinth, and CC learned about the origins of singing before singing campfire songs while holding hands. Joyful Voices and Ecco had their closing cairn ceremony, followed by s’mores and singing of rounds. Ecco campers were also treated to a slightly later bedtime and had a sunset swim in the pool before heading back to their cabins.
