Day #10: Hallo, Hochhausen!

We said, “Auf Wedersehen!” to Hamburg this morning and loaded the bus for our nine hour drive to Hochhausen, a tiny little town in Baden-Württemberg (aka Southern), Germany. The total population of the town is about 700 people!

Along the drive, we sang songs, napped, made rest-stop sandwiches, and enjoyed the company of our bus driver Vladimir, who is from Czech Republic. 🇨🇿

When we arrived in Hochhausen, we were greeted by Sue Malick and Count Dieter, with his wife Monique, and shepherded to Sue’s house where we enjoyed some delicious hand-pressed apple juice made from the Malick’s own orchard! The singers were then divided up into their host families for dinner and the evening.

The chaperones then enjoyed a lovely dinner in the Malick’s barn with the Count and his wife. We heard all about how the Malick’s came to own this farmhouse in Hochhausen and their hopes for growing PEBCCs connections in Europe!

Tomorrow we’re off to explore Hochhausen, visit a Schloss (castle), and perhaps even see a raptor show with the local naturalist. Stay tuned!
