Day #8: Back to Schule

This morning started with an early wake-up, but a delightful breakfast!

Performance of “Nagasaki” for German high schoolers

We then loaded onto the bus and drove to Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium* (*High School) where we spent the morning with their school choir. We even got to sight-read “A Million Dreams” with them as a “real American choir.” During our break outside, we played football (soccer), taught them dance moves, and belted out some of our favorite pop classics. The singers then gave a lunchtime performance to some of the classes, and were joined onstage by the school’s choir for three songs!

The school kids in the audience were adorably shocked and impressed by Ensemble. As the choir started with “When I Sing,” the students looked at each other with big eyes and smiles. Eric even greeted the student audience in German which delighted quite a few students. #WeAimToImpress

We then ate lunch from the school cafeteria (“This food is so much better than my school’s!”) and said, “Auf Wiedersehen!” Although we were only there for a short time, it was a great time!

The choir then braved Hamburg’s train system to get back to the main ring of the city where our hotel was, and had some much needed rest time.

When 4:30pm rolled around, we went exploring into Hamburg with our chaperone groups. We shopped, got dinner, and finally headed back to the hotel for an early-ish lights out.
