Day 3: Pet Rock n' Roll to the pond!

We all woke up to another cool morning, which quickly heated up as the fog left. After a meal of breakfast sandwiches, potatoes, and fruit, singers headed to warm-ups, led by Voice Teacher Alice, followed by our musicianship classes. In morning rehearsals, the JV campers were very eager to make their own beats, then notes. We might have some future composers! See the photo in the link below. Ensemble had their first taste of Carmina Burana rehearsal, singing O Fortuna, and Concert Choir got started on Lake Isle of Innisfree. Counselors saw lots of curious foxes and deer, who were unsure what to make of the beautiful music.

Space Cowboy Day brought out the camper’s creativity. Winners were Cabin Trout in First, Eagle second, and Newt in third (shoutout to the conjoined alien - see the photos if you want to believe.)

Today was another sunny day, so many folks trekked up to Turtle Pond for free time to swim and explore on kayaks and canoe. Many campers learned how to Kayak for the first time! Isaac, Murielle, Zoe G. Lisa and Lauren read under the shade of a tree, Tate played “Dominotes” with Audrey, Daniel, Counselor Beck, and Avi, and Josie made a pet rock at Arts & Crafts to protect her cabin. Joyful Voices participated in a long-standing camp tradition - paint the counselors! They gleefully finger painted their counselors and CITs — see the pictures — before heading to the lake.

Tonight’s evening activity was Counselor Bingo. Each counselor puts down a fun-fact on a bingo board, and then campers go around in groups and try to figure out everyone’s fact. Some fun facts from this year include: “was number one in Oakland for discus” and “recorded a spotify single at a sleepover with Ensemble friends.” After the winning team revealed which counselor belonged to which fact, campers quickly headed to bed, and were serenaded as usual by their counselors as they fell asleep.
