Day 6: Performances and Pizzazz
After a restful night, the campers awoke to the smells of delicious breakfast burritos, which were a huge hit.
At warm-ups, Miss Anne shared insightful techniques on how to support the voice using one’s entire body rather than just the breath. Then we all headed to musicianship classes. Violet, from Eric’s class shared that sight-singing is her favorite thing to do and she looks forward to it every day! In Anna and Kailamae’s class, theory nerds continued to work on intervals and dictation.
For lunch we had a childhood favorite— grilled cheese and tomato soup! With full bellies, the campers made it to rest period to get some extra sleep and write letters home to all of you!
During free time, a few courageous souls braved the chilly weather and made their way to the lake to swim and boat. Most other campers hung out at arts and crafts, which was letters home— expect some extra letters in the mail— and the tarp was fun as always, with board games, chill music, reading and drawing. Spot-it was a particular hit. At arts and crafts, Angelina and Ilsa taught counselor Maddy how to make beaded lizards.
As it is the last day of Joyful Voices session 1, we were treated to an amazing and stunning performance by them at recital. We were all blown away by their excellent stage presence, beautiful singing, and impressive rock percussion. They even taught the entire camp a new song! See the link below for videos and photos.
For dinner, we continued with the comfort food theme and had burgers and hot dogs with chips and salad. For dessert, we had scrumptious rice crispy treats.
While the older kids rehearsed, Joyful Voices had a special closing circle with s’mores, during which each camper shared what they loved most about camp and what they were looking forward to during the next year.
Tonight’s evening activity was CFDA — the Choral Fashion Design Awards. All of our counselors dressed up as their favorite musical genre and helped their campers form a fashion show in record time. Our wonderful and eccentric “Beck-Beck Siwa“ helped announce each group and their respective genre. Dressed in billowing skirts made of sleeping bags, hair adorned with name tags, and imaginative outfits, the campers cheered on their competitors as they strutted down the runway. Cabin Eagle achieved victory after the hilarious judges declared the winner. After a long day, the sleepy campers made their way to their cabins and crawled into their bunks, excited for tomorrow.
