Day 8: You've got a friend in me
Day 8! Week two of our glorious camp began with happy campers enjoying a delicious breakfast of luscious scrambled eggs, turkey sausages, and potatoes! The gentle fog crept over the hills, as sleepy singers and staff alike rose from their slumber to enjoy the nutritious meal prior to warm-ups led by beloved Eric, melting away the residual sleepiness with cascades of beautiful singing. As the fog laid over the sky, the camp was blanketed with a cool mist.
Musicianship commenced with a multitude of different activities. Will’s musicianship class continued with the auditory transcription of beloved camp rounds, whose graceful melodies flowed among the treetops. In Eric’s class, campers improved listening skills with dictations, familiarizing them with different strategies to recognize difficult rhythms. Anna and Kailamae’s class reviewed with dictations, key signatures and interval recognition exercises.
In Ensemble rehearsal, the campers started progress on the venerable Eric’s newly composed piece, serenading the nature. In addition, the Ensemble singers continued to rehearse the rest of their repertoire, with a mix of Estonian and Latin. In Concert Choir rehearsal, they utilized straws to help practice supported breathing for better choral technique. After the morning rehearsals, the fog dissolved away into the sky as the warm sunlight welcomed the campers as they went to lunch.
After lunch, the campers and staff all congregated for announcements, where we celebrated camper Murielle’s thirteenth birthday with a spirited birthday song courtesy of the entire choir. Most campers gleefully participated in today’s tie-dye craft at free time. Ella, Lorea, Winnie, Daria, and Malia P. went to the lake and rode on a paddleboat with Counselor Cat. Counselor Grace played “Captain’s Coming” with the other campers. Spot it made a popular re-appearance at the tarp under the tree, and many just enjoyed the sunshine after the past few overcast days. Zoe G and Arwen were seen giggling around campus and did tie dye together; Daniel, Anjali and Sequoia enjoyed their time at the tarp, playing Apples to Apples while enjoying the warm breeze beneath the gentle shade of a towering pine. After a scrumptious dinner of delicious barbecue, decadent mac and cheese, delectable cornbread, cornbread and apple crisp, the campers enjoyed a screening of Toy Story to conclude our day of unrelenting fun. Byeee!!!11!!
