Day 1: Uno, burgers, and fireflies

After an early call time at the Oakland airport, we navigated through the airport and had a smooth flight to Denver, Colorado. In between flights, we had a break for lunch and a bunch of card games before boarding our rather bumpy flight to Columbus, Ohio.

The singers sang Homeward Bound on the airplane upon landing, and one traveler declared it was “the best landing they’d ever had.”

After dinner in the Columbus airport (lots of pizza, burgers, macaroni, and chicken tenders), we boarded the bus for our 2.5 hour drive to West Virginia. The ride was full of obligatory singing, and bad jokes told by Mr. Brown. Along the way, we were all enchanted by the hundreds of fireflies we saw lighting up the night as we drove through Ohio!

We are looking forward to the first day of the festival tomorrow and getting to meet the 11 other choirs! But first a good night’s sleep!
