Day 5 - Free Morning with Home Stays & Afternoon Performance with Potluck Dinner

For some, this semi-cloudy morning was spent sleeping in. Keith and Steve reported that they watched movies last night and slept in until noon. Some hung out at home stays homes, and went shopping around town. Some singers went to other home stays and made fresh crepes for breakfast. Some went to the Lake and went swimming. But for others it was all about archaeology. Yes, I just said archaeology. On a choir tour no less. For the few that went to the site, we checked out ancient farmsteads, homes, graves, and Viking remnants dating from 100BC. We played in the soil, learned how to be an archaeologist and imagine the structures of the ancient buildings of Northern Europe. Many of us are coming home with bog-ore metal from the time-very cool! Renzo died.

Just kidding! Check out the photos! He demonstrated how he would have been buried 2000 years ago.

At 4pm, with light rain showers, we all convened at the Herning Heart Museum with our new "West Meets West" T-shirts. We all looked fabulous as always. The performance space was smaller and the kids really started blending well on the combined pieces.

Tonight we had a potluck dinner. This was not any ordinary potluck dinner. It was an event. It was filled with wonderful camaraderie, mixed families of Danes and Americans eating together, fresh and delicious food including: mixed salads, desserts, fresh fruit, couscous, chicken, herring fillet, shrimp and tuna with avocado salad, Danish meatballs (I'm hoping for the recipe from the host family), pesto pasta and fresh cut vegetables and cheeses. Besides the great food and discussions, there were special musical performances sharing "Sing All Ye Joyful", "In Anchor Bay", "Homeward Bound", "Johnson Boys", "Children Go Where I Send Thee" and Rossini's "Duetto buffo di due gatti" along with many others. It was a night of sharing music and celebrating new lifelong friendships made. All in all, tonight was a beautiful and special night that will be remembered by many as we continue on in our journey through Europe, both for the food and music, but also for the deep and meaningful friendships.
