Day #3: Sunshine + nature are good for the soul.

Today was the epitome of a day of recovery. After a good night’s sleep and breakfast with our homestays, we met back at Sangskole this morning and loaded onto the bus for our day’s adventure.

Deep Forest Art Land is owned by *Dorte Bille’s friend, Kristina, and her husband, Søren. We divided ourselves into two groups and had the most amazing nature walk with art exhibits, authentic Danish pastries, and utterly perfect weather. (*Dorte Bille is the conductor of Midtvest) We took pictures with the Giant Beetle, climbed through the Yellow Snake, and listened to the inspiring stories of our guides.

Group 1 was led by Kristina who was clearly an insightful nature lover. Her and her husband met over a shared love of Henry David Thoreau and Walden.

Group 2 was led by Henrietta who went to school with Dorte’s daughter but was unfortunately too old to join Midtvest as a child.

Once our time there was complete, we went back to Herning, had lunch in the school yard, and went on chaperone group adventures of downtown Herning. Some groups tried out Herning’s brand-new Boba tea place, others got ice cream, some even went thrift shopping! One thing every group enjoyed: the beauty of a perfect summer day in Herning.

In the early evening, we were joined by Midtvest Pigekor (our homestays) for a joint-rehearsal at Valgmenighedskirke (church) in preparation for our concert tomorrow night.

All in all, we’re in love with Denmark! 🇩🇰

As a fun bonus, the Chaperone were able to go to Herning Kirkes Drengekor (the boy’s chorus) summer concert this evening. The boy’s chorus has attended at the Golden Gate festival in the past. Their new director, Charlotte Rowan, attended Cambridge with our very own Eric Tuan! Here’s a beautiful picture of their unplanned (and unknowing until this morning!) reunion from this evening.
