Day #4: With great talent comes great exhaustion.
Day four was busy with concerts, resilience, and rest!
Singers were dropped off by their homestays in the morning saying they were feeling more well rested than yesterday. We took a 15 minute bus ride with Dorte to The International School in a small town called Ikast where we greeted the school principal, Mr. Brown, as well as the mayor of Ikast. There, the singers performed an inspiring concert for the whole school followed by a Q&A in which the International School Students asked about their experience in a traveling choir. For their first performance of the tour, and their first concert abroad in three years, they rocked it!
After taking a tour of the beautiful new school facilities in Ikast, we headed back to Herning for a special meet and greet with the mayor, where we sang for her and learned more about Danish government systems. We also gave a mini concert in the town hall cafeteria for the kitchen staff!
Later, the singers ate their lunches packed by their homestays, then partook in a “mandatory quiet period” where they napped, read, and recharged from their busy morning of performances. After playing some energy-building team games led by Liz, the singers rehearsed once again at the church with Midwest Pigekor and their future conductor, Frieda.
All in all, the choir worked hard on this rainy day in Denmark and deserve rest tonight before their big concert tomorrow!
