Day 9: ERAs Day

Today was another fantastic day at choir camp! The campers woke up promptly at 7:30 am when Counselor Owen blasted the Sacrificial Dance from the Rite of Spring through his Bluetooth speaker. After making their best attempts at cabin cleanup, the campers raced to get in line for breakfast because it was pancakes!

Tim led a high-energy warm-up by starting with a dance party and then practicing some vocal exercises. Then, the campers went to their musicianship classes. Will’s class worked on sixteenth-note rhythms in “Clapping Music” by Steve Reich, and Owen’s class worked on sight-singing and dictation in cut time.

Following morning rehearsal, the campers skipped (because running isn’t allowed) to get pizza for lunch. In honor of Taylor Swift, today’s spirit day was ERAs Day. Taylor decided that everyone would be a winner!

In order to get ahead of tiredness, it was mandatory rest during rest period today, so the campers either took a nap or endured an hour of boredom. During free time, Counselor Apryl led a boat race at Turtle Pond and Counselor Maddy taught everyone how to make stained glass art.

Recital was definitely a highlight today! We were treated to beautiful performances by Stella, Loki, Ilana, Georgia, Taryn, and Andrea. Congrats to all of our student performers!

For dinner, we had chili, cornbread, and salad, and then for dessert, we had brownies.

After evening rehearsal, the campers gathered in Fireside for Open Mic Night! Josie played “The Entertainer” on the piano, Jill, GG, and Liv made bad dad jokes, Mia sang “Don’t Start Now,” Matilda played the Harry Potter theme on the piano, Ayla and Tanya sang “Shallow,” Stella sang “False God,” June sang and played “Queen and the Soldier,” Natasha sang “Let It Go” from Frozen, Audrey played “Pupu A’o ‘Ewa,” Trina sang “Lovely,” Zuri sang “Happier,” Sophia sang “Vampire,” Anna and Counselor Cat sang a funny rendition of “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” Keira sang an original song, and Tim and Katy performed an original song called “Singers (Move the Air).” Two original songs tonight!

Lights out was at 9:15 pm. We’re excited for another day of singing tomorrow!
