Day 4: Singing with San Diego Children's Choir

What a musical day! Singers started the morning with delicious breakfast at the hotel before changing into their concert uniforms and walking the now familiar route to First Lutheran Church.

CC sang multiple pieces from their repertoire during the service, and many included collaboration with Earl Vaults, a phenomenal jazz saxophonist who added improvised licks to the music. Linked below is the online steam of the service. The congregation was very appreciative of the singers’ charismatic performance, and gifted them goodie bags filled with oranges, cheese sticks, and of course, candy. :-)

The kids returned to the hotel glowing from their successful performance for another pizza party on the patio. After a short rest period to give their voices a break, we headed off to our exchange with the San Diego Children’s Choir, the oldest and largest choral training program in San Diego County. We arrived to Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego. The choirs took turn rehearsing on stage and listened eagerly to each other rehearse. Both choirs gave rousing performances before joining forces for an impromptu final song together — “Touch the Sky” from Brave. San Diego Children’s Choir treated us to a delicious potluck dinner with a plethora of food options. We were proud of our choristers for being so friendly and getting to know the other singers, who made sure there was room at their tables to join in conversation over a meal. And of course, they ended the exchange by teaching their new friends the “Pony Game.”

We returned to the hotel, and the singers are currently packing their suitcases as we write this blog. We are so excited for our final day of what has been a wonderful tour of San Diego!
