Day 5: Homeward Bound!

After a 7:00 am wake-up call, the kids had their last breakfast in the hotel - many waffles were made! Then we headed to our rooms to pack up our bags.

Our final tour activity was a Whale Watching cruise, conveniently docked just across the street from our hotel. Singers excitedly boarded the boat, eager to find the best spot to see the whales (or, for some, to play cards with their friends.) Before we made it out of the bay, we spotted a Pacific Grey whale off the starboard side. Many seals and dolphins were also seen playing in the waves. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions, our cruise was cut short and we returned after about an hour.

Singers had some free time out front of the hotel before lunch - some went to Starbucks for non-caffeinated treats, some treated themselves to gelato, and others went shopping along the waterfront. They were happy to enjoy each other’s company on the last day of the tour, playing more rounds of the “Pony Game” and showing off newly developed secret handshakes.

Lunch was grilled cheese sandwiches from Beach Hut Deli, complete with chips and a cookie. We gathered in a big circle on the lawn and ate together, reminiscing on the wonderful past few days. During our closing circle, each singer got a chance to share with the group a favorite memory of the tour. Many remembered the beach day fondly, as well as the exchange with the San Diego Children’s Choir. Some said they would miss singing all the time, especially in ‘weird places.’ Many choristers shared how much fun their roommates were and that they would miss the free time spent with new and old friends.

Then it was time to load our luggage onto the bus and head to the airport for our flight home. We are so proud of Concert Choir, and can’t wait for our next tour.
