Day 2: Sloths and Splashing

We began our second day with a delicious breakfast in the hotel with the fresh fruits, as well as the staple foods of rice and beans, which were particularly popular.  After our meal, we embarked on a short bus ride to Arenal Volcano, where we learned about how the landscape was formed, including the lake created from the eruption in 1968. We split into smaller groups for our immersive hike, where we heard cicadas and spotted the male great curassow!

On the route back to the hotel, we pulled off to the side of the road because our guides spotted a sloth! That was quite thrilling and checked something off many people’s tour bucket list.

After a little down time, we ventured into La Fortuna, where we were able to explore the town and dine at local restaurants before a lovely concert in the park! We received many compliments from locals, tourists, and shop owners who loved the performance and were impressed by both the beautiful voices and professionalism of the choir. The singers sounded great and it was a wonderful end to our planned daily activities.

Upon returning to the hotel, everyone agreed that the combination of hike and humidity called for a refreshing pool break. After an afternoon of splashing, we returned to the hotel restaurant for another delicious dinner. Tomorrow morning we travel to Monteverde! Pura Vida!
