Day 3: Hikes and Hummingbirds
We began our third day by loading the bus bright and early so we could have breakfast before heading out. The singers performed a lovely rendition of Morning Song for the Magic Mountain hotel staff, and we were on our way to Monteverde. The three-hour bus ride was filled with Choir Jeopardy led by Eric, more storytelling, and singing. We had a beautiful route, seeing the towns surrounding Monteverde and enjoying nature. Bus 1 even saw a newborn baby calf and the mother cow walking along the side of the road!
We stopped in Monteverde at a restaurant called Mar e Tierra and had a delicious lunch of the singer’s choice of traditional Costa Rican casados, quesadillas, or a burger.
After lunch, we drove to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve for another beautiful, educational hike, followed by a visit to the hummingbird gardens!! Singers were able to see a variety of natural wonders. Highlights included a brief howler monkey sighting, a safe distance viewing of a wild tarantula, peccaries, a family group of coati, a cool green snake, many butterflies, and so many amazing ferns, trees, epiphytes, mistletoe, bromeliads, vines and other beautiful flowers.
We then continued to our second hotel of the trip, El Establo in Monteverde. The accommodations are stunning, and the singers enjoyed swimming in or reading by the pool with a mountain view. A delicious hotel dinner followed pool time, and we were all impressed by the meal! The stars are out tonight, and we have beautiful views from our hotel balconies!
