Day Five - Morelia Tour & Concert
Day five we awoke in Morelia to a gloomy and cold day. After breakfast at the hotel we headed out for a three hour tour of the city... a three hour tour! Unfortunately the museum of the city and region was closed due to a staff meeting and no one knew how long the meeting was going to go.
Instead we headed to the home where Jose Maria Morelos was born. He was the founder of their original constitution. We watched as an animatronic wax figure of him spoke to us about the importance of Mexican values and people. He wanted equality for all Mexicans, indigenous, Spanish decent, and mestezo (mixed).
We then wandered through the cathedral and the kids were allowed to sing inside. The sound inside was amazing and indescribable. From here we went to the local sweets market/crafts market, where a few of the kids got lollipops the size of their heads. They are not allowed to eat them on tour so I say good luck to you parents in dealing with that sugar high.
We had a lovely lunch overlooking the square across from the conservatory where we would be singing in the evening. The afternoon was filled with a rehearsal and some time to rest before dinner and our concert. The kids sang to a very welcoming and packed house with people sitting and standing in the aisles. The kids put on a great performance which concluded with a thunderous applause. They sang an encore of Totoro, or as I call it, Emi Fogg, tiger mom!
