Day Four - On to Morelia

After breakfast at our hotel we boarded the bus and said goodbye to San Miguel. The four hour trip was filled with revisions to some of the kids music and also a showing of Carmina Burana, the only dvd we had on hand. As we arrived in Morelia we learned that due to a political rally, some of the main streets were closed and filled with people. Our guide, Fernando, hired a taxi driver who knew the city better to guide us as close to within 2 blocks of the hotel. We checked in and then had a wonderful lunch of enchiladas and a variety of artisanal ice creams and sorbets for dessert. We ate at the hotel, sitting outside on the city center square and watched the 100 's of people from the political rally walk by in a parade. The kids then had a rehearsal at the conservatory. After rehearsal there was some time to explore the city in our chaperone groups, but due to the rain not many wandered very far. Several of the groups did, however, enjoy going into a party store that had rooms full of various foam shapes and fake flowers. Dinner was in a restaurant in a building dating back 100 's of years and was filled with different religious art and relics from the past. We learned that the owner also owns an art gallery in a neighboring city. We started with a traditional soup called tarascos. Our entrée was chicken filled with cheese and cilantro and other herbs and spices and wrapped in bacon. Dessert was a very tasty apple strudel. After dinner it was back to the hotel for some free time before lights out and bedtime.
