Day 5 - Ecco Camp Overnight and Goodbye to New Voices
Today was the last day of Camp New Voices, which means it was camp t-shirt day! They finished up their week with one final rehearsal working on “Waly Waly” and “Give Me a Kite.” Next, Counselor Nate taught them how to make colorful yarn aliens. After arts and crafts, they got to watch a mini performance by the Ecco campers! New Voices ended their camp experience by performing the songs they have been working so hard on - check out the videos in the dropbox link below! As they left for home, we heard many campers planning playdates and promising to stay friends forever - we hope to see them in choir this fall, and are so glad to see musical friendships in the making.
Ecco learned the rest of the words to the two Estonian lullabies they’ve been focusing on this week and practiced “Factus est repente” in preparation for the arrival of Camp New Voices. They took a break to play games and work on their friendship bracelets, and then it was time to meet the younger campers! In addition to showing Camp New Voices what they’ve been working on this week, the Ecco singers introduced themselves, said how old they are and how long they’ve been in choir, and talked about some of their favorite choir experiences. It was great for both groups to get to see each other - New Voices loved the chance to see and hear a group that started out just like them, and Ecco loved passing on some of their wisdom and showing off their hard work to a live audience!
After the performance, Ecco rehearsed some more and had two more student conductors, Campers George and Anna! Then campers headed home to get on Zoom for lessons and theory.
Late in the afternoon, Ecco campers got to come back to Chabot for their overnight stay! They set up tents on the deck, had tasty Ethiopian food from local restaurant Mela Bistro, ate birthday cake to celebrate Camper Nika’s birthday, and had Talent/No Talent Night, where campers and staff showed off their many impressive and entertaining talents! At the end of Talent/No Talent Night, Camper Owen led a game of Quarantine Bingo.
In the evening several Chabot astronomers led stargazing using the Chabot telescopes! Campers looked at the moon, Venus, and the double star Albireo. Finally, they closed out the night with hot chocolate, camp songs, and a closing circle. Then they went to bed so that they’re well-rested for their last day of camp.
