Day 2: First Concert, Second Lost Tooth
The second day of tour started with a yummy hotel breakfast made by Chef Gene. After our delicious egg sandwiches, we got on the bus and took a short ride to the first concert of tour! Juliet led warm up stretches in the sanctuary of Green Lake Church in preparation for the performance. The service went very well, during which the choir performed Sound the Trumpet and No Time. The singers also did a brief performance following the service which consisted of Give Us Hope, Oye, Hymn to Freedom, and Loch Lomond.
After the completion of the first tour concert, we walked from the church to Green Lake, where we ate sandwiches from a local restaurant. The lake was right off a beautiful park and playground, so lunch was followed by some time on the swings and play structure. The singers were introduced to the infamous “Pony Game” that is a tour tradition, and everyone had a good time running around and singing the accompanying tune.
Mr. Brown debriefed the concert on our drive from the lake into downtown Seattle, where we boarded an Argosy Cruise of the Puget Sound. The cruise involved lots of Seattle sightseeing, crossing the Ballard locks, and a sea seal spotting! The locks were particularly popular, and it was interesting to see how the boat lock system worked. The cruise had a tour component, so we also got to learn a lot about the natural and historical context of the place we are visiting! It was a beautiful day on the Sound; we even saw the sun! Very exciting for some California kids who were getting tired of the grey.
After docking back in downtown Seattle, the wonderful food crew picked up our dinner, which was Hawaiian fusion that we brought back to the hotel. It has been an exciting day of playground fun, beautiful performance, and another lost tooth from Fritz. Tomorrow we are connecting with Columbia Choirs for another performance. Looking forward to another great day!
